On top of the world!

16 September 2011

When I woke up this morning I had no idea what an amazing day was in store for me!

We headed down to Lake Matheson early in an attempt to get photos of the mirrored lakes but 20 mins into the 1.5 hr traverse around the lake and the heavens opened. We retreated with our tail between our legs and decided to get some breakfast at Matheson Cafe and hope the weather would pass in time for our helihike.

The weather did clear for us and shortly after breakfast with views of the mountains we would shortly ascend we were on our way in a helicopter up Fox glacier. The helicopter ride was scary to say the least! I was certain that our pilot was a stunt pilot from a James Bond movie. Nevertheless we got onto the glacier in one piece and started our 2.5 hr climb.

Along the way we came across some ice caves, waterfalls and streams of melting ice with the most refreshing water, especially after an hour of strenuous climbing and careful negotiation. Towards the end of our hike as we reached the highest point before starting our descent Ed dropped on one knee. I immediately started berating him for slacking off and it was only when I saw the petrified look on his face and him rummaging for something in his pocket that I realised what was happening. Almost on que it started snowing as he presented me with a ring he made from a 1 dollar bill as a temporary ring until I chose something I liked. (Pics to follow in a separate blog)

The day got even more eventful when our back side window fell out of our campervan and we were forced to make do with a piece of 1mm perspex stuck on for the rest of the trip.

I <3 San Fran!

03 September 2011

What an amazing place!

Stopped in San Fran on the way to NZ to visit Mez and Woz and fell in love with the friendly city. She had a chilled vibe and welcoming nature that made us feel right at home. Although am grateful for the inside introduction from Mez and Woz who have made their home there since December. They went out of their way to ferry us about from Alamo Square to Haight and Ashbury and further afield to Sasolito as well as acquainting us with their favourite eating holes of which Betelnut on Union Street was right up there. Still dreaming about the papaya and glass noodle salad and minced chicken lettuce cups. Mmmmmm!

It was sad to say goodbye but this will not be the end of an early crush. Our paths will cross again one day!

Jungles and Rainforests - Malaysia

21 January 2011

The orang utans were definitely one of the highlights of our trip together with a boat trip along the Kinabatangan river where we saw the famous proboscis monkeys with our crazy guide Mr Aji.  So wish I could have brought one of the little ones back with me.

Mabul island - Borneo

23 January 2011

What a beautiful place to learn how to dive!  On our first day of our Open Water PADI we saw lion fish, trumpet fish, cuttlefish, parrot fish, banded pipe fish, yellow goby fish, mandarin fish, manta rays, hawksbill and turtles. Whilst that was amazing the thing that amazed me more was the people.  Despite their struggle in difficult conditions they always managed to smile and the kids thought we were celebrities.

Donna Nook - Lincolnshire

06 November 2010

Headed up north to Lincolnshire for the weekend to get some snaps of cute seal pups.  From end of October to December heaps of seals descend on the banks of Donna Nook beach to give birth to their offspring.  By the time we got there approx 200 pups had already been born and we were lucky enough to witness a birth first hand.

That's where our luck ended coz Ed managed to lose his car keys on the beach as the tide was coming in so our weekend was cut short having to travel the 4 hours back by train to get the spare set. The trip was definitely worth it though as these cute pics show.

Bailey

10 January 2009

I was so excited to meet my friend's daughter, Bailey, while I was on holiday in Durban. She was very shy at first and was playing hide and seek whilst we were having lunch.  After a while she warmed up to me and was only happy to have her pic taken.  Isn't she absolutely gorgeous?  Vogue watch out!

Merryn & Warren's Wedding

27 February 2010

Merryn and Warren got married on a beautiful summer day at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town. She looked absolutely stunning, like something out of a movie, and the day was perfect in every way.

South African Wildlife

14 March 2010

On our trip to South Africa I couldn't wait to use my new 70 - 300 mm zoom lens and where better to do that than the Kruger National Park.  We spent a week in Mpumalanga and I was in my absolute element!  Had a close call with a protective elephant bull and managed to upset a hippo but it was definitely worth the wait for the pics I came away with.

Jonty and Shelley Maternity

Jonty and Shelley were down in London from Nottingham for the weekend so we headed off to Wimbledon Common to get some pics of Shelley's perfect little bump.  Pregnancy really suits her and from the back you wouldn't even be able to tell she was pregnant. Their baby is due in October and can't wait to take some pics of the little munchkin.

Jen Maternity

20 May 2010

Jen was just about ready to pop when we headed down to the South Bank to take a few pics.  I really enjoyed the location as you can let your creativity run wild.  We had a brilliant day and decided that Jen should audition for the new Zoolander movie with some of the poses she pulled out the bag.

Guyang

17 October 2009

I spent Saturday taking pictures of candles, room sprays and diffusers for the Guyang Website and my house smelt amazing. The jasmine and fig scents were my favourite. The candles and room sprays make great gifts so take a little look.

Brigitte and Justin's Wedding

22 July 2009

Justin and Brigitte's wedding in Mauritius was really special.  It had been pouring all day but the rain stopped long enough for them to say their vows on the beach and get to the reception.  The rain didn't put a dampner on the festivities, if anything it livened things up. They are definitely a couple who know how to party and what a party it was!

Natalie Maternity

27 September 2009

Natalie asked to have her shoot earlier than usual coz at 5 months she was the same size she was at full term with her first child.  Doesn't she look gorgeous?

Table Mountain

30 December 2008

As part of my photography course I had to photograph a landmark. The majestic Table Mountain was a natural choice because of the diversity of shots I would be able to take. I even spoilt myself and took a helicopter over it which was absolutely breathtaking!

Gee Maternity

03 December 2009

Gee wanted to surprise her hubby for xmas and asked me to come around and take some pics with the view to enlarging and framing one with her scans.  She had the most perfect little bump and was so full of energy and fun she made pregnancy look easy.

Rachel and John Wedding

Rachel and John got married on a beautiful summer's day in Fletching followed by their reception at Newick Park.  From the minute you meet them you can see they were made for each other.  The venue and decor were beautiful.  The mood made festive with a great jazz band and everyone having a go at the East Coast swing.  They could not have asked for a better day.
